چکیده
The fish community of Lake Constance, a large, deep, oligotrophic lake has undergone drastic changes in recent years, with the sudden rise to dominance invasive three-spined stickleback ( Gasterosteus aculeatus ) pelagic zone, rather atypical habitat for this species Central Europe. core objective study was compare feeding ecology and young Eurasian perch Perca fluviatilis unique situation identify reasons unexpected dominance, possible food niche time overlap, discuss consequences reshaped community. diel patterns prey compositions sticklebacks juvenile (0+) sampled October 2018 March 2019 were studied analyzing stomach contents. diets both mostly comprised zooplankton, copepods appearing greatest numbers. Benthic airborne insects consumed occasionally, by sticklebacks. Both exhibited peaks activity early morning, afternoon dusk, species, stomachs fullest at dusk. Stickleback contained about 20% more night than perch, mean estimated nocturnal fullness values almost 50% greater. Night confirmed digestive states, pointing competitive advantage over perch. Dietary composition varied 24-h cycle pattern consumption different between species. Perch comparatively small cladocerans Bosmina spp.), while larger Daphnia appeared often stomachs. In seasonal variation diet mirrored availability, indicating some degree opportunism. A Morisita-Horn index value 0.95 dietary overlap suggesting large population may exert effect on when resources are limited. longer periods greater intake nutritive high quality like daphnids can contribute rapid success dominating zone Constance.

Non-invasive measurement of 11-ketotestosterone, cortisol and androstenedione in male three-spined stickleback (Gasterosteus aculeatus).
The androgen 11-ketotestosterone (11-KT) plays an important role in reproductive physiology and behaviour in male teleosts. In the three-spined stickleback, Gasterosteus aculeatus, the plasma concentrations of 11-KT are related to the breeding status of the fish. Sticklebacks are relatively small (generally less than 1g) and in order to obtain sufficient plasma for assay of 11-KT, it has been n...
متن کاملGenetic divergence of a sympatric lake-resident-anadromous three-spined stickleback Gasterosteus aculeatus species pair.
The genetic relationship between sympatric, morphologically divergent populations of anadromous and lake-resident three-spined stickleback Gasterosteus aculeatus in the Jim Creek drainage of Cook Inlet, Alaska, was examined using microsatellite loci and mitochondrial d-loop sequence data. Resident samples differed substantially from sympatric anadromous samples in the Jim Creek drainage with th...
متن کاملPostglacial colonization shows evidence for sympatric population splitting of Eurasian perch (Perca fluviatilis L) in Lake Constance.
Previous microsatellite analysis showed that two subpopulations of perch (Perca fluviatilis L) exist in Lake Constance. This raises questions of whether (i). Lake Constance was colonized by two populations that diverged in allopatry, or (ii). the two subpopulations diverged in sympatry. Sequence analysis of a 365 bp mtDNA fragment (5'-end of the D-loop) of perch from Lake Constance and adjacent...
متن کاملGill worm Ancyrocephalus percae (Ergens 1966) outbreak negatively impacts the Eurasian perch Perca fluviatilis L. stock of Lake Constance, Germany.
The monogenean gill parasites of the genus Ancyrocephalus (Creplin 1839; Ancyrocephalidae, Dactylogyridae) are monoxenous parasites of freshwater fish (Ergens 1966; Simkov a et al. 2003; Simkov a, Matejusov a & Cunningham 2006). Adult trematodes locate mainly on the gills of the host, where they produce eggs that are released into the aquatic environment. The eggs hatch into free-living, ciliat...
متن کاملTemporal Stability of Genetic Variability and Differentiation in the Three-Spined Stickleback (Gasterosteus aculeatus)
Temporal variation in allele frequencies, whether caused by deterministic or stochastic forces, can inform us about interesting demographic and evolutionary phenomena occurring in wild populations. In spite of the continued surge of interest in the genetics of three-spined stickleback (Gasterosteus aculeatus) populations, little attention has been paid towards the temporal stability of allele f...
